Two found dead inside North Port home, North Port Police investigating

NPPD

NORTH PORT- Detectives have been at the house on Lady Slippers Ave since one in the morning trying to piece together what happened after two individuals were found dead of apparent gunshot wounds.

“This is not a situation of somebody breaking in or from the outside coming in,” said Josh Taylor, spokesman for North Port Police Department.

NPPD respond to a call of gunshots just before 1 a.m. in the 5000 block of Lady Slipper Ave.  Taylor says detectives discovered the bodies of two individuals they say are husband and wife.

“We arrived, some family members inside exited,” said Taylor. “Once inside we discovered two deceased, [an] adult female and male in their 50s.”

According to detectives a family member made the call to 9-1-1 after reportedly hearing two individuals arguing followed by gunshots. Taylor says investigators believe this to be a murder-suicide.

“We have a fairly good idea of what we believed happened but you know you want to make sure you’re looking at every angel and every potential situation,” he said.

Neighbors who chose to not speak on camera say this is a quiet neighborhood and were shocked to see heavy police presence on their street.

“We’re very fortunate that we live in a community were this is very rare,” said Taylor. “When these things happen we have the proper resources in place to make sure that we 100% find out exactly what happened.”

The names of the individuals will not be released under Marsy’s Law. At this time detectives have not released a motive and say there is no immediate threat to the public.
