Tiger Woods finishes with 1st-round 74 at PGA Championship

TULSA, OK (SNN-TV) – Tiger Woods was cruising through the first round of the 104th PGA Championship in Tulsa today.

He seemed to be more fluid and explosive off the tee, more accurate hitting approach shots and more confident putting.

But then something happened on his second shot on the par-4 18th. After hitting his tee shot to the perfect spot, Woods pulled his approach shot into a greenside bunker. He slammed his wedge into the turf in frustration.

For the first time in the round, after that shot, Woods seemed uncomfortable and was limping more noticeably on his surgically repaired right leg. He bogeyed the 18th hole and made the turn at even par.

After the round, Woods said his right leg was in pain, and wasn’t fully pleases with his opening score.

“I drove it well, but my iron shots were not very good. I didn’t get the ball very close. I got off to a great start and didn’t keep it going. I really didn’t give myself any looks for birdie. I was struggling trying to get the ball on the green, and I missed quite a few iron shots both ways. It was a frustrating day.”

Tiger, Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth will tee off tomorrow at 2:36pm. McIlroy leads the tournament at 5-under.
