Three SNN reporters recognized at Sunshine State Awards

FT. LAUDERDALE – We at SNN are happy to share some great news.

Three of our reporters were honored at the recent Sunshine State Awards in Fort Lauderdale, with two getting top honors in the category of Spot News Reporting.

SNN reporter Annette Gutierrez and evening anchor Cynthia McLaughlin taking home first place for their on-the-spot coverage of the series called “Unraveling the Mystery of Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie.” You can find the three stories here: (Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3). And in that same category, Annette also won third place for on-the-spot coverage of protests in Sarasota for Cuba. Plus, she received third place for her sports coverage of the Sarasota skateboarder who went to the Olympics.

Weekend anchor and morning meteorologist Marco La Manno won third place for his story “Stuck at home, this parrot’s voice soars worldwide,” in the “Light Feature” category.

And Cynthia also brought home second place in the “Investigative Reporting – Single Report” category for her story, “Siesta Key Scammer Returns.”

The Sunshine State Awards recognize excellence in journalism in Florida in newspaper, magazines, radio, TV, and digital, plus recognizes aspiring journalists in high school and college.

It’s put together by the Society of Professional Journalists in partnership with three National Associations of Hispanic Journalists, Black Journalists – South Florida Chapter, and LGBTQ Journalists.
