SARASOTA – Nurses are heroes every single day, and throughout this pandemic, they have reminded us of just how heroic they are.

The global pandemic has given National Nurses week a special significance this year, and Sarasota Memorial Hospital is recognizing those nurses that have put their lives on the line in the Suncoast.

Chief Nursing Officer at SMH says there is never hesitation for nurses to care for their patients, no matter how sick they may be.

“You go through the training, and you know the needs of patients and once you get your license, just like a physician, that’s what we’ve sworn to, were going to take care of the patient, that’s why we agreed to be a nurse, it’s never a question of will I go in the room, it’s always, I will go in the room because I became a nurse,” said Chief Nursing Officer, Connie Andersen.

Although celebrations have been put on hold, SMH put a video together honoring their nurses who have been on the frontlines saving lives with heroic efforts.

National Nurses Week began this week and will last through next Tuesday.
