SARASOTA COUNTY (WSNN) – Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe and Key Chorale are taking you back in time with the “American Roots: The Gospel Experience” show, but this time from the comfort of your own home.

In 2019, the two art organizations collaborated together to bring the Suncoast a rich tradition of black gospel music in America. They performed at three sold-out shows in churches in Sarasota county.

One of them was recorded. So now, you can stream it.

WBTT’s Founder and Artistic Director, Nate Jacobs says since people are still being careful with their lives, the organizations thought it would be a good idea to stream this concert to theater lovers.

He says if there has ever been a time in our country where people need to watch a show like this one,  it’s now.

“It will take you just where you need to be as an individual of grabbing hold to hope in this very uncertain time,” Jacobs said.

“You had these two groups coming together, and I think especially in today’s times, seeing those kinds of organizations to come together to do good, to create art, to be really become a family, I think speaks volumes in the world we’re living in,” Key Chorale’s artistic director, Joseph Caulkins said.

The stream is available through to November 1st. You can purchase a ticket at either WBTT’s or Key Chorale’swebsite. Tickets are $25 per household and viewers will receive a 24-hour viewing pass that can be activated any time during the streaming run.
