SARASOTA-A 14-year-old is behind bars, accused of shooting another teen. According to the Sarasota Police Department the teenager, who SNN is not naming due to their age, fired multiple rounds towards an unnamed 16-year-old victim. It happened in the 1700 block of 23rd Street in Sarasota, Wednesday night.

“Through talking to witnesses and developing probable cause we arrested a 14 year old on Thursday afternoon. They are facing charges of attempted murder to the second degree,” said spokesperson for the Sarasota Police Department, Genevieve Judge.

She says the suspect and victim do know one another.

“As far as why this happened, we are still trying to figure it out,” said Judge. “Witnesses on scene, told us that the victim was at the end of a driveway speaking to other friends when the suspect walked up and fired multiple rounds at the victim, striking the victim twice.”

According to a police report, the victim stated he and the suspect have an ongoing dispute. The victim also stated he saw the suspect posing on social media with the gun.

“In addition to speaking with witnesses, we’re also going to be speaking to their parents to figure out how this gun got into the hands of this 14-year-old,” said Judge.

The victim is still recovering, but police say he is expected to survive.
