SARASOTA – The Team Tony Cancer Foundation is known to help cancer patients battling the disease by ensuring they are not alone in their fight.

But now due to the pandemic one of their biggest events may not be possible to do. For a decade Team Tony has hosted the Gran Fondo Sarasota at Nathan Benderson Park to raise awareness of this deadly disease.

Co-Founder of the non-profit Tony McEachern says as a safety measure they are hosting the first ever Gran Fondo virtual Bike-a-thon. The new virtual ride will allow bikers to complete their own meaningful miles and collect pledges. McEachern says the safety of their clients and staff has remained top priority.

“Cancer affect everybody so we’re looking to include the entire community,” said McEachern. “And it’s going to be a lot more inclusive to the community cause not everybody can get outside or wants to get outside and hate to ride a bike.”

The Gran Fondo is not canceled but a final decision will be made as we get closer to the date to host an in person ride. For more information on how to get involved in the virtual bike-a-thon or how to get involved with the non-profit visit teamtony.org.
