SARASOTA, Fla. (SNN TV) – The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating an in-custody death involving the Sarasota Police Department.

In a press release, SPD said it responded to a 4 a.m. call on Sunday at the 1600 block of Devonshire Lane for a report of a suspicious person.

SPD wrote that officers were taking a 50-year-old man into custody, who then died while in the custody of the department.

FDLE is following protocol by investigating the death. The man’s name is protected under Marsy’s Law.
