Suncoast Summer Fest kicks off its two-week festival

SARASOTA (WSNN) – One of the biggest summertime events returns with a kick-off party, Thursday night.

The Suncoast Charities for Children kicked off with its ‘Waves and Wheels’ event. They had exotic cars, motorcycles, and of course powerboats. More than 300 people were there enjoying the music, the food, and the drinks.

One Veteran racer Scott Begovich returns to the Suncoast for the races. Out of the 20 times he’s raced, his Geico boat has won about 10 times. But this year, Begovich won’t be in the driver seat, instead, he’ll be watching the races from the sidelines.

“Now that I’ve retired, I get to watch it, which is a little more nerve-racking than actually racing the boat,” Begovich said. “Suncoast for Charities is the best. Lucy Nicandri, she is awesome, she’s worked her butt off for years, raising money for the Charity. We’re so proud to be a part of it, the Geico team. We’re just excited to be here and help Lucy and help the whole charity. Anything we can do, we love Sarasota, we love the race, we love it all.”

This festival is all about benefitting the children with special needs. All the net profits go towards the Suncoast Charities for Children. The festival began today and the events will run through July 4th. This weekend will be the Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix. For more information, you can visit Suncoast Summer Fest dot org.
