On Thursday, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed law HB5, shortening the time frame of a legal abortion from 24 to 15 weeks. The bill excludes exceptions of rape, incest, and human trafficking.

“My beliefs are everybody deserves to live, if you cant keep the child maybe give it up for adoption, that’s a great choice,” said one Sarasota resident.

“If we’re going to implement a law that’s strict in nature than we have to as a society provide the options,” said another Sarasota resident.

Notable pro choice organizations plan to fight against the bill.

“We’re not going to take this laying down, not going to stop, we’re not going to slow down. It doesn’t matter how long it takes or how tired we are we are going to continue for autonomous freedom in FL,“ said Kaitlynn Danehy-Samitz, founder of Women’s Voices of Southwest Florida.

Pro life organizations are celebrating law HB5. Florida Conference of Catholic Bishops stated,

“While there is still work to be done, today’s bill signing marks significant progress towards full legal recognition of unborn children”.

The law goes into effect July 1st contingent on any legal action.
