SARASOTA – At U.S. Congressman Vern Buchanan’s office dozens of protesters let their voices be heard of how unhappy they are over the Senate’s vote acquitting President Trump of articles of impeachment.

More than 200 protests were scheduled across the country from Miami to outside of Trump Tower in New York City. Vice Chairman of the Florida GOP Christian Ziegler says he hopes the country can now focus on the upcoming elections without any further distractions.

“The president getting acquitted, I was confident from the beginning that would be the case,” said Ziegler. “I think everyone in the country if you were just being honest with yourself, you knew this wasn’t an impeachable offense you knew the president did nothing wrong here and today we got final – official confirmation on that.”

However members of several groups organizing the protest say they want justice brought to the oval office.

“I see this whole process as badly weakening democracy and all its processes. I’m very concerned that what happened this week will impact this country for years to come. We may never have a democracy again,” said Robert Charlick, a political science professor.

President Trump is set to address the nation at noon on Thursday to discuss his impeachment trial.
