SARASOTA – Today marks the beginning of Hanukah. People of the Jewish fate around the world will be in celebration for the festival of lights.

The holiday lasts eight nights — and each night is marked by the lighting of a menorah. Elaine Glickman of Temple Emanu-El says Hanukkah is a holiday everyone looks forward to every year especially during a year where there has been many attacks towards the Jewish community.

“When times are dark, there can always be light and it shows even in places in darkness that it is our responsibility to bring light to the world not only by kindling the candles but by being people who embody the virtues of goodness and of peace and tolerance and belief in miracles,” said Glickman.

Temple Eman-El is holding their annual congregational Hanukah Celebration Dinner Friday.
