SARASOTA – There will be increase patrol by the Sarasota Police Department around the beaches and Main Street for the Memorial Day parade on Monday.

Spokesperson for SPD Genevieve Judge says its important drivers and boater think twice before deciding to drink and drive.

“If you are going to be out enjoying the long weekend make sure to celebrate responsibly. If you are going to drink make sure you have a designated drive home,” said Judge. “And if you’re going to be out on the water like we know a lot of folks are our marine patrol will be out there as well so make sure no drinking and boating make sure you have all your safety equipment so you can have a fun weekend.”

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration traffic fatalities spike up over the three day weekend with more than 40 percent of those being attributed to alcohol.
