SARASOTA – It was a record month of growth for Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport. SRQ President & CEO Rick Piccolo says this is the first time the airport’s exceeded 200,000 passengers in a month, with just over 228,000 in December. He thinks 2020 could be the year they break the record of most passengers at SRQ in a year, which was just over two million passengers in 2001. He says the first four months of 2020 are looking busy.

“With increases in the anywhere from 20 to 50 percent range again, and then after that, we should see it tone down a little bit to lower double digit increases,” Piccolo said. “We expect somewhere in the 2.4 to 2.5 million hopefully this year.”

Piccolo attributes the increase in traffic to both old and new airlines at SRQ. He says American is still their second-fastest growing airline, with Allegiant being the fastest growing, serving 21 cities.
