VENICE – A haven for boaters near the Venice inlet will be closed down for nearly two months.
West Coast Inland Navigation District says they will close Snake Island for the dredging project in Lyson Bay.
About 7,000 cubic yards of material will be dredged from the main channel and rim channel in Lyons Bay and deposited on the west side of Snake Island. The rock barriers also will be extended to further protect the shore.
The cost of both projects is estimated around $389,000 – $70,000 for Snake Island and $319,000 for the dredging. The island will be closed for a total of 75 days meaning trespassing on the island during that time period is a third-degree felony.
The shores are set to reopen in December.
