SARASOTA (WSNN) – In light of George Floyd protests, Marie Selby Botanical Gardens has a message of inclusion.

President and CEO, Jennifer Rominiecki, says they are committed to fostering and preserving a culture of diversity.

Selby Gardens is an affiliate of the Smithsonian institution; they support the efforts of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture.

Rominiecki says she encourages broadening the conversion about discrimination and systemic injustice.

“We wanted to remind everyone that we are a welcome place of respite right now, a lace that we welcome everyone to come to reflect and be contemplative and to hopefully find renewal,” Rominiecki said.

Everyone is welcome to their two Bayfront sanctuaries in downtown Sarasota and at Historic Spanish Point.

As they are still in Phase 1 of reopening, with just the outdoor locations open to the public. Rominiecki says they are evaluating Phase 2.
