Sebastian Korda retires (wrist), exits Australian Open

SEBI KORDA RETIRES

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA (SNN-TV) – 22-year-old tennis star and Bradenton-native, Sebastian Korda, had sparked hopes of clinching the Australian Open finals. His brilliant performance at such a young age won him a spot in the quarter-finals last night.

Unfortunately, the IMG Academy alum became the first player to retire from the Australian Open this year during his first Grand Slam quarter-final.

Korda’s run ended in heartbreak as the 29th seed was forced to stop three games into the third set with a right wrist injury. The 22-year-old had required treatment for the problem mid-way through the second set after losing a close opener in a tiebreak.

Korda was down to Karen Khachanov when he decided to stop, marking the end of his amazing Aussie summer which also saw him reach the Adelaide final.
