SARASOTA (WSNN) – Another year, another virtual summer camp with the Sarasota Youth Opera!

Anyone with a computer or device ages 8 to 18 can participate. So you can join from the comfort of your own home or even while on vacation in another state.

This camp allows the kids to learn all things opera from singing and acting, to props and stage management.

The Online Summer Camp starts June 21-July 2nd.

When the students sign up, they will be sent home a package of materials to prepare for a project-based learning style.

The Youth Opera program is building on last year’s virtual program, going from some pre-recorded activities to having everything taught live.

“We learned a lot from the virtual world and we feel like we can give the kids a nice experience of what opera is about,” Youth Opera Music Director Jesse Martins said.

“This is the home stretch right now,” Youth Opera Coordinator, George Hemcher said. “If we can get through the summer virtually, we feel like there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.”

Come one come all. You don’t need any experience to participate. The deadline to enroll is Tuesday, June 1, 2021.
