SARASOTA (SNN TV) – The Sarasota Orchestra is closing their Masterworks series with a world premiere.

The Herald-Tribune reports composer and pianist Sarah Gibson is debuting her new composition to make this mountain taller. Her composition was inspired by a sculpture by the late French artist Aristide Maillol. Much of to make this mountain taller is about women’s rights and climbing mountains to achieve basic human rights. She says she hopes audiences feel some pain, some frustration, but also some hope, the Herald-Tribune reports.

The finale to the Masterworks series season will also feature a work from Richard Strauss and will feature guest conductor Carlos Miguel Prieto. The shows will be at the Van Wezel from March 31 through April 1 at 7:30 p.m., and April 2nd at 2:30 p.m. Tickets run from $37-$99. Go to Van Wezel’s website for tickets.
