SARASOTA (SNN TV) – If you’re in the mood for a little Cuban ballet, this is for you.

The “Cuban Choreography Showcase” will be performed by the Sarasota Cuban Ballet School’s Gulfcoast Studio Company.

According to the Herald-Tribune, the show brings together both the old and the new in Cuban ballet. It’ll include a piece by choreographer Alberto Mendéz titled “Muñecos” about a romance between a tin soldier and a rag dog come to life. It’ll also feature music by Cuban composer and pianist Ernesto Lecuona, Majísimo,” set to the music of Jules Massenet, and two new works by Sarasota Cuban Ballet School master teacher, Tania Vergara.

The Cuban ballet training system takes the best from Russian, British, Italian and French traditions.

Prices range from 35 to 50 $35-$50 dollars. Two performances will take place at the Sarasota Opera House at 61 N Pineapple Avenue this Saturday, April 22nd. For tickets, go to SarasotaOpera.org.
