SARASOTA – Sarasota County held their first Pfizer vaccination clinic for those 16 and 17 years old at Sarasota Square Mall, Saturday.

“My mom signed up online for me, she got the call that the vaccines we’re available and signed me up for it as soon as possible,” said 16-year-old vaccinated, Owen Mowry.

16 year old, Owen Mowry says him and his family hope to get back to normal soon

“We’ve been very cautious, I guess, with you know going out and seeing other people and finally being able to have more confidence in being able to see other people,” said Mowry.

A parent of one 17-year-old who got vaccinated says she feels relieved

“He works at Publix, so he’s an essential worker so he needs to be safe, so to us it was just really important that we made sure that we got vaccinated so everyone in our family would be safe, because we have just been through when my husband got it, it was very stressful for us and we had a lot of intense emotions so as soon as the vaccine started rolling out we realized we needed to get it done,” said Parent of 17-year-old who was vaccinated, Helen Greene.

An important reminder for anyone who gets vaccinated is to remember your second dose timing, due to reminders no longer being sent out

“The people who received the Pfizer they’ll return to Sarasota Square mall in 21 days, and they are going to need to remember that on their own, we’ll have the clinics open and available for them but they need to come back on their own, same thing for anyone who comes back anytime for a Moderna, that’s a 28 day wait before you get your second dose,” said Sarasota County Department of Health PIO, Steve Huard.

And once you return for your second dose you must bring your vaccination card.

“People need to safeguard it, with all their important documents and do not laminate it, you may need a booster down the road so make sure that you have that,” said Huard.

All minors who get vaccinated must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and fill out a signed consent form.
