All units from K9 to marine, reported to the annual Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office Open house, to meet the community face to face.

“Everyone is nice, there’s lots of events, he’s excited to see everything thing,” said Carol Sunshine. “There’s so much to see. There’s never a dull moment.”

More than a thousand people showed up to the free, family event to thank the deputies for their service, including America’s Got Talent, Bello Knock.

“I just love to support our Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office,” said Knock. “They’re more than just the people you call when you need something.”

Kids geared up and took their shot at the SWAT Junior Obstacle Course. Carol Sunshine brought her son to thank and learn more about the deputies.

“They put their lives on the lines for us, so you know what; we wouldn’t have the community that we have if it wasn’t for them,” said Sunshine.

Sarasota County Sheriff Tom Knight loves seeing the community interact with his deputies.

“Just the little handshake and a slap on the back saying thank you for being out there at two in the morning means a lot to them,” said Knight.

Knight says this event is just as important to the community as it is to the department.

“Importantly the children to have the children have the opportunity to talk to the deputies and see that their e just like their parents their guardians their cousin s and to have the intimate feel  that yea these are neat people , they’re fun to be around and I want to call them when I need help,” said Knight.
