SARASOTA COUNTY (WSNN) – New numbers out from Sarasota county show some of the areas where COVID-19 is hitting hardest.

There are about 15,000 total cases in Sarasota County alone.

The Florida Health Department says the 14-day positivity rate has been running just under six percent. It says that number is fairly good.

There is an average of about 150 positive cases a day.

The health department says there are specific reasons for hot spots, like an elder care facility with an outbreak or a community event causing an outbreak.

Right now though in Sarasota County, we’re seeing what we would call general wide-spread across the community, so we’re encouraging everyone to take precautions,” FDOH Sarasota County Health Officer, Chuck Henry said.

The health department says until a vaccine is widely distributed and the virus transmission begins to go down, our best defense is social distancing, wearing masks, staying home if you’re sick, and washing your hands.

It is also reminding you to get your flu shots as the season is here.
