SARASOTA COUNTY – A system update in the Department of Health in Sarasota County will expand their vaccine registration appointments to all individuals over the age of 18.

“If you are outside of the current priority groups, and as the different priority groups are announced we’ll be able to open those – registration process to those groups, said Steve Huard.

Huard, Public Information Officer for the Sarasota County Department of Health, says part of the new system will allow everyone 18 and over to create a profile in the appointment system.

Huard says this is part of an upgrade the county is making to how it handles registrations moving forward.

“So we needed to find a way to update the system, and just honestly just to simply update the system,” said Huard. “To meet the expanded priority groups in a manner so that we can capture all the individuals that want to receive the vaccine in our community.”

Because the county’s system works on a first-come, first-served basis, those already registered will not be affected. But Those who register but are not yet 60 will not receive an account number or be eligible to get vaccinated.

Huard says essentially everything will stay the same when it comes to registering.

“We’re gonna be using the same links everything will work and operate just the way it has,” said Huard.

As part of what the county is calling an “enhancement,” the current registration system will be locked at 2 p.m. Friday.

After that time, no changes will be allowed until the system goes live again sometime Monday.
