Rep. Greg Steube votes against honoring Capitol Police in January 6 insurrection

Greg Steube votes against honoring Capitol Police for their actions on January 6.

WASHINGTON – Local Representative Greg Steube votes against honoring Capitol Police. The House of Representatives passed legislation awarding the highest congressional honor to law enforcement for their service during the January 6 riot at the Capitol.

The measure passed 406-21.

One of those 21 was Republican Representative Greg Steube of Sarasota.

In a statement to SNN, Steube says he “did not support this legislation because the unprecedented leadership failures of Speaker Pelosi, the U.S. Capitol police chief and the Sergeant at Arms put their officers, members of congress and the public at risk on January 6th, and led to the death of an unarmed protester.”

The “unarmed protester” Steube references is Ashli Babbitt, who was shot after she breached the Capitol with a mob of protesters and tried to climb through a broken window leading to the Speaker’s lobby.

Suncoast congressman Vern Buchanan voted for the awarding of the honors.
