BRADENTON – In recognition of National Rehabilitation Awareness Week, SNN brings attention to medical rehabilitation that have impacted the live of Suncoast residents.

“I wasn’t always a firm believer in physical therapy, but this has helped me,” said Patty Smith.

People living with disabilities or facing chronic pain due to injuries turn to medical rehabilitation centers to return to living a pain free life.

With more than a dozen locations established in Florida, Fyzical Therapy and Balance Center has changed the lives of Suncoast residents.

“Fyzical was set up in the beginning to fight any kind of balance or fall risk issues,” said Sanjeev Joseph.

Joseph, a physical therapist and owner of Fyzical Bradenton, says he noticed patients dealing with balance issues had a difficult time finding the right rehab program. Especially with Florida’s elderly population.

“Florida having a large concentration of elderly people fall risk was a huge issue that was not being addressed,” said Joseph.

According to Joseph every year more than 3 million people fall – of that 300,000 people are severely injured resulting in hospitalization.

After her accident Smith was left virtually immobilized since having to use a brace from her hip to her ankle. Not being to do simple such as get into a car, she realized she needed the help Fyzical offers.

“It might be hard, and you go away from here saying I don’t wan to come back because it hurts but if you just push yourself, it will get better,” said Smith.

Smith says in the short time she’s worked with the staff at Fyzical she’s regained mobility in her knee once again get behind the wheel of a car.

“Our goal is to help people understand why it’s so important that they take care of their health and what they need to do to in order for their health to improve,” said Joseph.
