Rays blank Yankees for third straight win

TB vs NYY

NEW YORK, NY (SNN-TV) – Coming off a series win, the Rays headed to the Bronx yesterday to begin a three-game series with the AL-leading, but slumping New York Yankees.

Ryan Yarbrough and the Rays shutout the Yanks 4-0, the first time New York has been shutout in consecutive games since 2016.

The AL East leaders were blanked for the fourth time in nine games and dropped to 8-16 since the All-Star break after a 64-28 start. Yarbrough pitched four innings as a bulk reliever for his first win in nearly a year, striking out six without a walk.

Isaac Paredes singled off Gerrit Cole in the 4th inning for a 1-0 lead, enough to get the Rays on their way to a third straight victory. Tampa Bay added three runs in the ninth on Jose Siri’s RBI single and Yandy Díaz’s two-run single.

In Game 2 tonight, Tampa lefty Jeffrey Springs opposes Yankees southpaw Nestor Cortes. First pitch is set for 7:05pm.
