SARASOTA COUNTY (WSNN) -Prostate cancer is one of the top killers in men. And some men in New in the Newtown area of Sarasota learned a lot about it.

Saturday morning, Dr. David Morse, the president of the Sarasota Prostate Initiative, hosted a Prostate Disease Awareness event at the Goodwill Manasota Center.

He says African-American men are more susceptible to the disease than white men.

Some SMH Newtown Health Center physicians spoke at the event teaching the group about the disease and who to take to for treatment.

And as a prostate survivor, he wants to make sure people learn how preventable and manageable this disease is, if you catch it early.

“In order to overcome the fear, which all of us have when we the disease and you’re told you have cancer and you kind of say, what do I do now?’ There are things you can do,” Dr. Morse said.  The first thing to do is to get a grip on it and get all the information you can get, and that comes with a group like us.”

His goal is to spread awareness to as many people as possible. If you’re interested in learning more, you can call him (941) – 356-0754 or go to his website.
