SARASOTA – Project PRIDE SRQ, a local nonprofit aimed at uniting Sarasota’s LGBTQ community and its allies, will host their first food drive on Saturday.

Board President Jordan Letschert says the organization is moving forward with their next few projects that will benefit other local nonprofits. The food drive drop off will benefit Second Chance Last Opportunity.

Letschert says they decided to step in and lend a helping hand since Second Chance’s food giveaway is closed on Saturdays as they don’t have enough supplies.

“You know in the COVID era there’s not a family that hasn’t been affected,” said Letschert.

They hope to provide the necessary products needed to help the many families who are left without being able to put food on the table.

“And it’ll be totally contactless so if people just want to come up we’ll have our masks on. You’ll see that we’ll have our Project PRIDE shirts on,” said said Letschert. “You can just let us know if it’s in the trunk or where it is and we’ll take and you can go on and enjoy your weekend.”

There will be two drop off sites. In the morning they’ll be at Sabal Palm Bank from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. and in the afternoon, they’ll be taking donations at Mellow Mushrooms from 12 p.m. – 2 p.m.

Letschert says nonperishables and baby food are their most requested items.
