ANNA MARIA – A popular restaurant and hangout spot on Ana Maria Island is temporarily closed for repairs.
The Rod and Reel Pier is closed due to a partial collapse on the piers walkway. The southeast side section of the pier is sinking because of support beam that has dipped. The walkway is a popular destination for fisherman and a tourist destination for the restaurant located at the end of the pier.
A family visiting out of the state, who chose to not speak on camera, tells SNN they were looking forward to dining out at the landmark restaurant but were disappointed to find their favorite restaurant on the island closed.
The pier closed down on Wednesday. City of Anna Maria Mayor Dan Murphy reports the owners have applied for a permit to begin the repair work.
