SARASOTA (WSNN) – While COVID-19 vaccines are available to almost everyone, certain individuals are not receiving them.

Sarasota physician, Dr. Washington Hill says not enough people in the vulnerable populations like in the African-American and LatinX communities are not getting vaccinated.

This is why the Suncoast Women of Action, along with the Jewish Family and Children’s Services (JFCS) held a pop-up vaccination clinic in Newtown, Saturday afternoon.

It was held at the Betty J. Johnson north Sarasota public library.

The Florida Department of Health administered the first and second doses of the Pfizer vaccine to those age 12 and older.

“We’re well aware of the healthcare disparities that exist within the community and that a lot of folks in the African-American community have not had access to vaccinations like the rest of the community, so we’re trying to help create an incentive to get people vaccinated,” JFCS’s Arthur Lerman said.

JFCS offered 50-dollars in cash to the first 50 people who were vaccinated at this event. About 20 people got vaccinated.

The next event will be on August 14th.
