SARASOTA – One of the most recognized voices in the world makes their way to Sarasota. Shadoe Stevens is known as the “youngest DJ in America” starting his career at age eleven. Tuesday night, at Ringling College of Art and Design’s annual “Holiday Mixer,” Stevens teases the audience of his newest project “The Button–Sided Hooey.”
It’s an animated African American version of Alice in Wonderland with music of the1930s. The idea is to remind people to have hope and keep going.
This concept resonates with many of his projects as he continues to work in many forms of art and media.
“The thing that I’ve always tried to do,” Shadoe Stevens said. “And this goes back to my early success in programming radio was to create a sense of optimism. Everything has to do with hope and uplifting spirit, and things that elevate your consciousness.”
Stevens is exhibiting his artwork in the Stakenborg–Greenberg Fine Art Gallery in downtown Sarasota on Friday, December 6 at 6:30 pm. It will be at 1545 Main Street.
