North Port to discuss pay hikes at City Hall

NORTH PORT – North Port’s city commission will discuss pay hikes for workers this week. According to YourSun.com, all five commissioners debated a pay study Monday and want administrators to return with options.

An Evergreen Study would increase pay by more than $3,400 per employee.

Commissioner Debbie McDowell said in a social media post that a tax hike between 9%-11.5% is more than what taxpayers will get, but she’s open to a compromise.

Commissioner Jill Luke suggested a four percent hike over four years with cost-of-living bumps factored in to compete with the private sector and other local governments.

A city budgeting workshop begins at 9 a.m. Tuesday. The commission will set a tentative millage rate at 5 p.m. Then there’s another workshop 9 a.m. Wednesday.
