NORTH PORT, Fla. (SNN TV) — North Port city commissioners gave preliminary approval a 180-unit upscale apartment complex.
Specifically, the commission changed the growth plan to increase development allowed on 18.6 acres off of Toledo Blade Boulevard. This would allow for the Serenity at North Port apartment complex.
According to the Herald-Tribune, the board also changed the land-use classification from single-family to multifamily development, which is significant because much of North Port was carved up into quarter-acre single-family lots.
Vice Mayor Phil Stokes argued the city needs higher density.
Both votes were 4 to 1, with Commissioner Debbie McDowell dissenting.
