SARASOTA-BRADENTON (WSNN) – Southwest Airlines announces new routes at Sarasota-Bradenton Airport.

They’ll be serving four destinations from SRQ: Nashville, Houston, Chicago, and Baltimore

SRQ’s Executive Vice President, Mark Stuckey says it’s been a long-awaited partnership for SRQ, since 1999.

He says Southwest started looking at leisure markets with popular outdoor destinations like beaches, mountains, and more. So that’s where SRQ comes in.

“We’re very excited to get Southwest Airlines,” Stuckey said. “It’s definitely been one of the carriers on our list that we’ve wanted really really bad. And they served Tampa and Fort Myers for a long time and to get them here at SRQ is a really big deal. Not just for the community, but for those who visit our community as well.”

Service begins on February 14th next year.

Stuckey says the north-east and mid-west are good markets, that will bring a lot more possibilities to the Suncoast.

He says the new Baltimore location will benefit our Orioles and of course, snowbirds will enjoy this low-cost carrier, as well.
