SARASOTA COUNTY (WSNN) – Families with children who have special needs have a new educational opportunity for their kids.

The Easterseals of Southwest Florida strengthens its partnership with the Sarasota Boys & Girls Club of Sarasota and DeSoto counties by creating a school called Easterseals Academy.

Saturday morning, the organizations held an open house at the Lee Wetherington Boys & Girls club to showcase its different enrichment spaces from art and technology rooms to virtual reality rooms.

Families can also receive support for the kids with in-house therapy.

This school will be serving students with disabilities from Pre-K through 22 years old.

“There are lots of kids whose abilities if given the opportunity and the support that we all need in one way or another,” Easterseals Southwest Florida President and CEO, Tom Waters said.

“Our mission is to serve kids who need us most, so what better way to continue that mission than have Easterseals Academy here to serve those kids,” Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota & DeSoto Counties President and CEO Bill Sadlo said.

The Academy has three campuses for the different age ranges:

Each campus is allowing about 100 kids with small class ratios.

The next open house is Saturday, June 26th.
