Nelson Cruz named 2021 Roberto Clemente Award winner

HOUSTON, TX (SNN-TV) – Seven-time All-Star Nelson Cruz has been named recipient of the 2021 Roberto Clemente Award, Major League Baseball’s most prestigious individual player honor.

Cruz, nominated by the Minnesota Twins during the Regular Season, is the fourth Twins player to win the Award, joining Hall of Famers Rod Carew (1977), Dave Winfield (1994) and Kirby Puckett (1997).

Cruz, the 50th winner of this prestigious honor, will officially receive the Roberto Clemente Award from Baseball Commissioner Robert D. Manfred, Jr. and the Clemente family at a pregame press conference before tonight’s Game Two of the World Series.

Cruz, who was previously nominated for the Roberto Clemente Award by the Twins in 2020 and the Seattle Mariners in 2018, is being recognized for his generosity and humanitarian efforts in his home Club markets and his hometown in the Dominican Republic:
