VENICE, Fla. (SNNTV) – A near-century-old building is now on the local historical register.
In a press release, the city of Venice said the City Council approved the listing of Edgewood Cottage in the Local Register of Historic Resources. This came after the Historic and Architectural Preservation Board in July recommended that it be placed on the city’s historical register.
The cottage, located at 721 Myrtle Avenue, was built in 1930 after the Florida Land Bust halted almost all development.
Landscape artist John Nolen designed homes in the early 20th century that envisioned a walkable mixed-use community. Edgewood was envisioned as a lower and moderate-income neighborhood.
The community was built in 1930 and is considered an example of the style of affordable housing in Nolen’s concept plan.
