SARASOTA – A mother’s grief after the disappearance and murder of her son is a call to action for one Suncoast woman.

Tawana Span is the mother of Jabez Spann, the teen that disappeared almost three years ago from his home in Sarasota. She says she turned her tragedy in to a way to help others.

She founded the Jabez Spann foundation in memory of her 14 year-old-son. Whose remains were found in February of 2019. The foundation provides the financial resources and other means for families who are searching for a missing loved one.

Tawana says due to the COVID-19 pandemic the foundation’s annual fundraiser had to be canceled; but is planning to host a virtual fundraiser alongside relaunching a new website for the foundations scheduled for September.

A 50 thousand dollar reward is still available for anyone with information about the death Jabez.
