Manatee County Animal Services needs emergency fostering after plumbing crisis

PALMETTO (WSNN) Listen up dog lovers, Manatee County Animals Services has a plumbing crisis on its hands, and they need your help.

Plumbing repairs start Wednesday, and Manatee County Animal Services says it’s affecting at least half of their kennel capacity.

“Unfortunately, they will need to tear up through the floors of our adoption center for our dogs, to get to that area to figure out what the exact problem is whether it’s a blockage or breakage of a pipe,” Outreach Specialist Hans Wohlgefahrt said.

So, they need to move the dogs out of that area and into a temporary home.

“The impact of the repairs is just going to add an element of stress to the dogs that are near that area,” Wohlgefahrt said. “They’re breaking through concrete, loud noises, people coming in and out of the shelters.”

The shelter needs your help in fostering about 30 dogs for at least one week. Wohlgefahrt says they’re reviewing applications of households that match well with larger breed-sized dogs.

“We’re really hoping that people who want to foster do not have pets right now will take advantage of this and help us out, cause those are the ones we’re really looking for at this point,” Wohlgefahrt said.

The shelter is providing all the supplies you need.

“Everything from food to a crate; anything to make it easy for you,” Wohlgefahrt said.

Plus, you give the pups a little taste of home.

“They get to experience what home life is like, and sometimes their personalities come out much more than when they’re at the shelter here, so it can be a great thing,” Wohlgefahrt said.

Animal Services says this may help a dog find a permanent home as well.
