LONGBOAT KEY – A Longboat Key resident was contacted today, in which the caller imitated or “spoofed” the number to make the call look like it was coming from the police department.

The caller told the resident that the Longboat Key police had a warrant out for their arrest and if they did not make payment right away, the police would arrest them immediately.

“The Longboat Key Police Department will never make a call like that regarding any pending legal action,” said Police Chief Pete Cumming. “We want our people to, and others, to know this won’t happen. If it happens it’s fraudulent.”

The Longboat Key Police Department wants to remind everyone that officers will never make calls requesting or demanding money. If you are a victim of this type of call, please contact the longboat key police.
