Lightning, Penguins open NHL season tomorrow night

LIGHTNING

TAMPA (SNN-TV) – The Tampa Bay Lightning begin their season tomorrow in the NHL’s season opener at Amalie Arena against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Lightning enter this season looking to become the first NHL franchise to three-peat Stanley Cups since the early 1980’s, when the New York Islanders accomplished the same feat.

Tampa Bay finished with 36 wins, 17 losses and 3 ties last season with a 21-7 record at home.

This summer, the Lightning saw their entire third line of Yanni Gourde, Barclay Goodrow and Blake Coleman depart, but they did manage to keep all of their elite core pieces intact for another run. Andrei Vasilevskiy, Nikita Kucherov, Brayden Point, Victor Hedman and Steven Stamkos are all healthy and ready to go for Jon Cooper.

Cooper has a one-track outlook this season now, after signing a 3-year contract extension earlier today.

Puck drops tomorrow night from Amalie Arena at 7:30.
