Joe Gruters loses bid for RNC treasurer

SARASOTA (SNN TV) – Sarasota Republican leader Joe Gruters loses in his bid to become the national Republican Party treasurer. That means his 15-year streak of holding leadership positions for the GOP is coming to an end.

He lost to a Republican official from Kentucky despite an endorsement from former president Donald Trump, according to the Herald-Tribune.

Gruters says he was the underdog but says he looks forward to “coming back to Florida and making sure we’re winners in 2024.”

While he lost his race, his preferred candidate for Republican National Committee (RNC) Chair, Ronna McDaniel, held onto her job.

Gruters co-chaired Trump’s 2016 campaign in Florida and chaired the Florida Republican Party since 2019. He’s giving up that position in February.
