Jarrod Hewitt preps for second training camp with Seahawks

HEWITT 3

SEATTLE, WA (SNN-TV) – A former Venice Indians star, turned Virginia Tech Hokie, is looking to make his mark on the NFL, heading in to his second training camp.

Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle, Jarrod Hewitt, begins his sophomore campaign this season in the Pacific-Northwest, as the Seahawks report to training camp tomorrow in Renton, Washington.

Having appeared in only preseason games, and named to the practice squad last season, Hewitt looks to expand upon his role in 2022.

With a now, much younger, core following the departures of stars Russell Wilson and Bobby Wagner, Hewitt looks to find his place on the Seahawks roster.

The Venice native says that he powers through the doubt, and remains grateful to maintain his NFL dreams.

“Its a long season, the NFL is what, 18 weeks now? It dawns on you sometimes, those thoughts come in your head, ‘Will I ever get my shot?’ ‘Is this going to be forever?’ ‘I don’t know if I want to be doing this’, but all that is, is negativity.

The only thing you can do is just try harder, work harder, show in practice that you’re giving 100%. You’re not just letting guys block you, you’re not just being a practice dummy, you’re trying to get better still — without trying to be Rudy. You’re just trying to find that balance.

But overall, its a good experience for me. I don’t think anything negative of it. I’m out here living in Seattle. I get to have teammates like last year, getting to know Russell [Wilson] and Bobby [Wagner] and Carlos Dunlap, some of these guys are just legends no doubt about it.

You just got to take it for what it is. I keep telling them, last year was my redshirt year, I’m ready to roll now, I’m ready to play and I’m going to put it all out there. Just looking forward to it.”

The Seahawks first preseason game is scheduled for August 13th in Pittsburgh against the Steelers. On November 13th, Seattle also plays the Buccaneers in Tampa.
