House approves bill making animal cruelty a federal felony

PACT Act

SARASOTA- A rare display of bipartisanship as The” Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture Act ” or PACT Act, is approved by the House, and will now move onto the Senate.

Congressman Vern Buchanan says this bill allows authorities to go after wrongdoers because they will have federal jurisdiction and won’t be bound by state laws.

“I think they need to be very careful we are going to find them. We are not going to put up with torturing animals. A lot of them are small animals, crushing animal’s there’s a lot of that on the internet. We are giving them a heads up now, this is going to be passed in the senate and be passed into law,” said Congressman Buchanan.

Those convicted will face federal charges, fines and up to 7 years in prison.
