SARASOTA, Fla. (SNN) – Eleven different designers are working on renovating the historic Caple House in Sarasota. After moisture issues from the air conditioning, Tandem Construction had to do physical work to the house to restore it.

The first phase of renovating the house has already been completed. This included all work done on the inside of the house.

“The second phase would be to come to the outside of the house, hoping to redo the plaster, which is a very specific finish. And they are going to redo the roof. And hopefully those things will start next year,” Joyce Hart said .

The Caple House was originally owned by Ralph and Ellen Caples in the early 1900’s. They influenced John and Charles Ringling to come to Sarasota. Mrs. Caples died in 1971 and the home took new ownership, after she gave the home to New College.

The 11 designers are using their own vision in the home to renovate it.

“This year’s featured interior designers are Toni Krenn, John Beck, Marla Oppenheim and Marsha Ritter, Jeanine Zapatka, Keffie Lancaster, Holly Dennis, Tracee Murphy, Margaret Rohr, Gail Forest, and Kati Ramage as an artist,” Hart said.

These 11 designers are allowing the home to have a contemporary vision in a magnificent old house.

The house will be open to the public Feb. 4 through March. 2, Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The house is located off Bay Shore road by the art museum, on Caples Drive, in Sarasota. The address is 351 Caples Drive.

Eventually the house will go back to classrooms and professor’s offices.
