Gerry Bohanon named USF’s starting QB

TAMPA (SNN-TV) – Less than one month away from their season opener, Coach Jeff Scott and the USF Bulls have named their starting QB.

Gerry Bohanon, a junior transfer from Baylor who helped lead the Bears to a Big 12 Conference championship and a Sugar Bowl victory last season, has been named starting quarterback for the Bulls.

Bohanon started 12 games last season for the Bears while totaling 2,523 yards and 27 touchdowns. He transferred to USF in May after spring football drills had been completed. Bohanon was selected over sophomore incumbent Timmy McClain, who started nine games for the Bulls last season.

The Bulls haven’t had a quarterback start every game in a season since 2017, when Quinton Flowers led the Bulls to a 10-2 record.

Bohanon spoke to the media for the first time today since getting the nod, embracing his new role.

“I mean at the end of the day whether we lose the game or win the game, the finger is pointed at me, it starts with me. So, if I can be the same guy each and everyday, come in with my energy, bring my best game each and everyday I feel like the guys are going to follow, the guys are going to bring their best games. So I’m excited for whatever comes.”

Bohanon and USF open the season against the BYU Cougars on September 3rd at Raymond James Stadium. That game is set for a 4 p.m. kickoff on ESPN-U.
