VENICE, Fla. (SNN TV) – A temporary four-way stop was put in place at the intersection of East Venice Avenue and River Road in Venice due to construction.

The set-up began 7 a.m. today according to a news release from the Florida Department of Transportation. Traffic will be controlled by an FHP officer. There’s no announced timeline as to how long the officer will be directing traffic

FDOT recommends using an alternate route as the stop may cause delays or slow-moving traffic. If you’re going south on I-75, you can exit at Jacaranda Boulevard and then take Jacaranda Boulevard south to Center Road and then head east to River Road. You can also continue south on Jacaranda to U.S. 41.

The Herald-Tribune reported this is happening after decades of both the area and political leaders pushing for the widening of River Road between I-75 and U.S. 41. The project costs $47.5 million. River Road is a key transportation connector for coastal south Sarasota County, Charlotte County, North Port and Englewood. It’s also a major hurricane evacuation transportation route.
