TALLAHASSEE – Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried has joined U.S. Representative Charlie Crist in calling for federal officials to investigate the governor’s vaccine distribution programs.
She called on the FBI’S Public Corruption Unit today to launch an investigation against Gov. Ron DeSantis at press conference.
In recent weeks, reports have surfaced of wealthy retirement communities getting exclusive access to vaccine doses through pop-up state run vaccine sites.
Fried requested an investigation against DeSantis after more than 1,200 seniors at a wealthy Key Largo community received “exclusive” doses of the vaccine. Citing possible favoritism in the state’s vaccine distribution.
“The fact pattern is simply to clear to avoid. Give campaign contribution – big dollars. Get special access to vaccines,” said Commissioner Fried. “Ahead of seniors, ahead of our teachers, ahead of our farm workers, and so many of our residents here in the state of Florida who are scared and who’re wanting these vaccines.”
Gov. DeSantis later denied the allegations that he initiated the key largo luxury resort vaccines site saying – the state “wasn’t involved in it in any shape or form.”
