SARASOTA –  The Sarasota county health department says a food service worker at a downtown restaurant tested positive for Hepatitis A.

The person works at Duval’s restaurant at 1435 Main Street in Sarasota.

The health department warns that the employee may have exposed customers between April 26th and May 10th. If you visited the restaurant during this time and have not been vaccinated for hepatitis a, health officials say you should consider getting vaccinated.

There have already been seven cases of Hep-A in 2019 in Sarasota county, compared to just two last year.

The disease is highly contagious and attacks the liver. Symptoms include abdominal discomfort, dark urine, fever and diarrhea, among others. If you experience any of these, see a doctor.

The Health Department is offering the Hepatitis A vaccine for free at its Sarasota and north port clinics this weekend. Concerned customers should call the health department at (941) 861-2900 for more information
